For Child Care
SCHOOL-AGE CHILD CARE
The School-Age Child Care program is licensed by the Massachusetts Department of
Early Education and Care (EEC) to provide quality care for 156 girls at our High Street facility.
This program offers
girls ages 6 to 12 (grades 1-6) fun and hands-on enrichment activities during a
combination of formal and informal time.
The informal time gives each girl a choice of activities such as basketball or jump rope in
the gym; reading or working on homework in the library; safely surfing the Internet in
the computer lab; or exploring nature and make-believe play in the game room. Formal
time allows girls the opportunity to experience the staff-guided diversity of programs
designed according to the Girls Inc. national program planning guidelines. These
programs fall into one or more of the following categories: Careers and Life Planning;
Self-Reliance and Life Skills; Sports and Adventure; Health and Sexuality; Culture and
Heritage; and Leadership and Community Action.
Members enjoy an environment that takes girls seriously; provides a chance for them to
make new friends; learn new skills; ask questions and explore. Year-round there are
special events and opportunities for community sharing. Members and families enjoy
celebrations such as a Halloween Haunted House Party, Thanksgiving Friends & Family
Feast, and Winter Holidays Celebration. We also offer a full-day summer program called
Fundance.
