Hermanas
Hermanas is an after school program for girls in grade six. Hermanas is held at two middle
schools in Lynn twice a week from 2:30pm - 4:30p.m. Hermanas provides academic and social
support for girls while helping them develop a sense of ownership toward their schools. One day
is devoted to building important academic skills such as note taking, study skills, time
management and reading comprehension through academic workshops delivered in the format of
games, group projects and challenges. The second day of Hermanas offers structured enrichment.
Structured enrichment programs usually run for 10 weeks and are designed to increase skills,
knowledge and promote positive attitudes in one or more of Girls Incorporated core content
categories: Health & Sexuality, Career & Life Planning, Leadership & Community Action, Culture &
Heritage, Self-Reliance & Life Skills and Sports & Adventure. In addition to the weekly
programming, the Hermanas members are invited to special events and field trips throughout
the year.
