VOLUNTEER OUTREACH COORDINATOR
A ten-month AmeriCorps position serving at the Host Site of Girls Incorporated of Lynn

The mission of Girls Incorporated of Lynn to inspire girls to be strong, smart and bold by meeting the needs of girls in the community, developing girls' capacity to overcome the effects of discrimination and be self-sufficient, responsible members of the community, and to serve as a vigorous advocate for all girls.
Girls Incorporated of Lynn is fortunate to have over 200 women, men and student volunteers annually providing a variety of enrichment activities for our members. The Volunteer Outreach Coordinator will increase the number of volunteers by 10% and foster positive relationships for our volunteers. Ten hours a week will be dedicated to SCI Social Capital Inc. and its mission.
Girls Inc. of Lynn Duties and Responsibilities
· Volunteer Recruitment: Coordinate outreach efforts including website updates, online listings, and selected social networks. Attend college and business volunteer fairs, and other community venues. Create recruitment materials and update the volunteer handbook and forms as needed.
· Interview and screen potential volunteers: Respond to volunteer inquiries, schedule volunteer meetings, determine if there is a current match for the volunteer within the agency, maintain volunteer log. Plan and participate in orientation evenings, prepare necessary material including volunteer job descriptions, and ensure paperwork is completed.
· Communications: Establish and maintain ongoing communications by meeting regularly with staff to assess volunteer needs and current activity, and provide support/direction to volunteers. Schedule and meet with each volunteer on a monthly basis and share feedback with staff. Plan and write a quarterly volunteer article for our e-newsletter, website and newspaper, and photograph volunteers during their service for promotion. Responsible for performing exit interviews with volunteers, including an evaluation, and sending a thank you letter to each volunteer. Submit monthly updates on volunteer activity and a quarterly volunteer report.
· Volunteer Recognition: Organize and implement quarterly appreciations and celebrations for volunteers. Arrange for recognition of volunteers in April which is national Volunteer Appreciation Month.
· Special Projects: Assist with the recruitment for Career Speaker Series, holiday events, and other events as needed. Coordinate Community Care Day activities and work with staff on special projects and specific tasks as assigned.
SCI Outreach & Technology Coordinator duties:
The SCI AmeriCorps member will use technology and in-person outreach to recruit residents to volunteer and participate in civic activities.
· Recruit and coordinate at least 75 volunteers and document at least 200 additional individuals participated in community activities as a result of the member’s service.
· Promote the SCI website to the Lynn community and oversee activity on the website. Participate in the Communities That Cares Youth Council- Part of the Solution coalition. Provide initial training to CTC members so they may upload information on their activities and volunteer opportunities directly to the website.
· Increase traffic by 10% for the SCI community web tools and host partner website (if applicable
· Responsible for assembling a weekly e-blast to the SCI community and updating of the email list.
· Attend trainings and meetings as required at SCI and complete required reports in a timely fashiion.
Qualifications and Requirements
· Technically proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, Access, and PowerPoint
· Excellent verbal, written, communication skills with strong interpersonal skills
· Experience updating websites, and utilizing Face book and other social media preferred
· Ability to work independently and as a team to accomplish work objectives
· Detail oriented, organized and the ability to manage multiple tasks
· An interest in working within a diverse, girl-focused agency
· Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings
Hours: Regular hours are 10am – 6pm. Occasional evening hours may be scheduled.

Youth Leadership Coordinator

Youth Leadership Coordinators increase the capacity of host sites to implement social capital building, youth engagement and community service-learning (CSL) as strategies to achieve high educational outcomes.
The mission of Girls Incorporated of Lynn to inspire girls to be strong, smart and bold by meeting the needs of girls in the community, developing girls' capacity to overcome the effects of discrimination and be self-sufficient, responsible members of the community, and to serve as a vigorous advocate for all girls.
Girls Inc. of Lynn’s Teen Programs actively serves 150 girls year-round and reaches an additional 800 youth through their peer leadership programs. The Youth Leadership Coordinator will coordinate with Girls Inc. of Lynn’s Teen Programs, the Communities that Care Coalition, Part of the Solution Youth Council, and other community organizations throughout the city of Lynn to increase service-learning opportunities for youth and connect youth to those opportunities.
Responsibilities
· Implement the SCI Youth Leadership Curriculum through a Youth Council program and/or another youth leadership development program. Some members may be initiating new youth leadership programs while others will enhance existing programs.
· Members will also seek to identify ways adult volunteers can support the success of young people served by the agency.
· Each member will provide leadership training to a core group of 20 youth, including a Youth Council in each SCI community, who will organize projects that engage 100 of their peers in community service-learning (CSL) and 200 youth in other civic activities.
· Increase participant civic leadership skills and commitment to future civic engagement.
· Track progress of the teen leaders through the maintenance of individual civic leadership skills checklists and other assessment tools that document the practical skills they develop in areas such as meeting facilitation and event coordination.
· Provide additional direct service to youth at partner agencies that support youth development goals and have been approved by SCI.
· Collaborate with other SCI staff, volunteers and partners on other projects to promote civic engagement, with an emphasis on integrating youth into activities of SCI and community partners.
· Collaborate with other SCI Youth Programs Coordinators on joint efforts including occasional activities that bring together youth from various SCI locations.
Responsibilities at Host Site: Girls Inc. of Lynn
· Serve as Advisor to Communities That Care’s Youth Council- Part of the Solution and Girls Inc. of Lynn’s La Verdad Substance Abuse Prevention and Awareness Program whose focus is on substance abuse prevention and youth leadership in the city of Lynn. Facilitate monthly youth council meetings and twice-weekly peer leader meetings, maintain communication through email, Facebook, and phone with youth council members on meeting dates, events, and community service opportunities.
· Work with 25 Part of the Solution youth council members to develop leadership skills such as event coordination, community service learning projects, and other marketable skills outlined on the SCI civic skills checklist.
· Coordinate with high school guidance staff on outreach and recruitment strategies for the youth council, through a combination of program brochures, resource tables, and other recruitment strategies.
· Recruit new youth council members and support peer leaders in recruiting new youth council members. Maintain an average of 20-25 members at each monthly Part of the Solution meeting.
· Provide support to youth council members in organizing, implementing, and promoting events such as the annual Harmony Among Lynn Teens conference and other youth council service learning events which will reach over 500 Lynn youth.
· Track youth service learning activities and hours of service for each individual youth council member.
· Assist with the coordination of the 4th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service in Lynn, MA, which strives to involve families in volunteer activities to serve Lynn non-profit and youth organizations.
· Assist Girls Inc. of Lynn Teen Staff with the coordination of family engagement activities and events for Girls Inc. of Lynn’s teen programs.
· Provide needed support to the College Mentoring Program by engaging youth in volunteer and civic engagement activities and assist youth with résumé building activities.
· Connect youth council members to other opportunities to serve their community that are not coordinated by the youth council.
· Assist Coordinator of Substance Abuse Prevention Programs with youth-led substance abuse prevention activities and projects. Including media campaigns, youth in action activities, and other youth-led substance abuse prevention projects.
· Coordinate with Volunteer Outreach Coordinator to create a youth friendly website for service learning opportunities.
· Write monthly reports on youth council activities, coordinate and implement evaluation tools of activities and events, and maintain database of members, attendance, and event participation.
· Organize public relations for Youth Council and Girls Inc. community awareness projects including writing articles for the local paper and updating CTC wiki and POS Facebook page.
· Oversee and support peer leaders in production of their Lynn youth spotlight show on Lynn Cam TV to educate the Lynn community about positive programs and events for Lynn teens.
· Attend and participate in Lynn’s Communities that Care Coalition meetings and events.
· Work with Girls Inc. middle school and teen staff to provide leadership and advocacy training and support to girls in peer leadership and case management programs.
· Support peer leaders by checking in with them weekly regarding their school work, connect them to the Girls Inc. Learning Center and tutors, and encourage them to participate in college mentoring and college visits provided by Girls Inc. of Lynn.
Required Skills for Essential Functions
· Excellent organizational and communication skills
· Ability to work with youth in a group setting; past experience with youth helpful.
· A commitment to national service and the mission of SCI
· Excellent written and oral English communication skills
· The desire to work with diverse constituencies
· Willingness to take initiative to achieve goals

· A clear plan for living on the AmeriCorps stipend in the Greater Boston area
Desired Skills for Marginal Functions
· Regular access to a car (required for Woburn, and helpful for non-Boston based positions)
· Knowledge of community served a plus
· Ability to work indepdently and on a team
· College degree or coursework is preferred
· Bilingual communication skills a plus

Development and Communications Manager
Position Description
Overview: Since 1942, Girls Incorporated of Lynn has been responding to the changing needs of girls and their communities through research-based programs and advocacy that empower girls to reach their full potential and to understand value and assert their rights. We are an affiliate of the national organization, Girls Inc., headquartered in New York City.
We provide structured after-school programs for girls ages 5 to 18. Our programs focus on science, math, and technology; health and sexuality; economic and financial literacy; sports skills; leadership and advocacy; and media literacy and are held in a safe place where girls can be themselves.
Position Summary: The Development and Communications Manager works with the Director of Development and Communications and is responsible for helping to lead and manage a comprehensive giving program focused on building annual operating support. The Manager works closely with the Director to set the strategic plan and direction of the program.
Reports To: Director of Development and Communications
Major Responsibilities Include:
· Assist in meeting aggressive annual giving revenue goals and track results.
· Work with volunteers and the Director of Development in the planning and organization of fundraising and cultivation events and create follow-up strategy after each event.
· Work closely with the Director of Development to develop the tactical and strategic yearly plan.
· Provide comprehensive reports derived from the fundraising database (Sage) for meetings and strategic planning.
· Write and perform updates to the web-site, facebook page and social media sites.
· Coordinate the design and printing of flyers, brochures, constant contact and invitations for development.
· Assist with writing and the distribution of press releases.
Qualifications:
· Bachelors degree or 5 years work experience in Development
· Excellent computer skills including but not limited to; Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Constant Contact, PowerPoint and social media sites
· Organizational and Project Management skills
· Excellent written, verbal and communications skills
· Strong attention to detail and deadlines
· Ability to work autonomously and in a team setting

College Mentoring Fellow

Service Description
The mission of Girls Inc. of Lynn is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold by meeting the needs of girls in the community, developing girls’ capacity to overcome the effects of discrimination and be self-sufficient, responsible members of the community, and by serving as a vigorous advocate for all girls. Girls Inc. of Lynn has been operating since 1942, serving girls ages 6-18 emphasizing six core themes: self-reliance & life skills; careers & life planning; leadership & community action; health & sexuality; culture & heritage; sports & adventure. The College Mentoring Fellow will have primary responsibility over all College Access and College Mentoring Programs at Girls Inc. As part of the weekly College Mentoring Program, s/he will facilitate junior and senior mentoring, revise the resource notebooks and Girls Inc. “Lynn College Planning” website with up-to date information while also supporting mentor/mentee relationships. The Fellow will also plan college visits, workshops, answer college related questions from teens and run summer college success workshops. Finally, the Fellow will work with his/her supervisor to regularly assess and evaluate the College Access and Mentoring Programs using pre/post tools, feedback sessions, and observations.
Essential Responsibilities
Ø Facilitate and run the Junior group mentoring program
Ø Further develop mentoring orientation and mentor trainings
Ø Coordinate monthly college success workshops on topics including essay writing, financial aid, etc.
Ø Create an alumni network for Girls Inc. teens who have successfully completed the College Mentoring Program
Ø Codify tracking and evaluation processes for the college access programs
Ø Recruit, train, and retain volunteer mentors
Ø Match mentors with mentees, facilitate weekly mentoring sessions, and provide additional resources to matches
Ø Recruit female role models to work with the Junior mentoring group to help with sessions focused on academic success, financial literacy, and career exploration
Ø Travel at least once/month to Fellowship meetings, retreats, and training throughout the Commonwealth
