1. What is Girls Incorporated of Lynn?
Girls Incorporated of Lynn is a 501 (C) (3) organization that has served the Lynn community since 1942. We are an affiliate of the national youth organization Girls Incorporated®, a research, education and advocacy organization that inspires all girls to be Strong, Smart, and Bold®.
We provide after-school and summer enrichment and educational programs to girls ages 6 to 18 and help build their capacity for responsible, confident adulthood, economic independence and personal fulfillment. Our programs take place at our new facility at 50 High Street.
2. What is the history of Girls Incorporated of Lynn?
In 1940, a group of representatives from Greater Lynn women's organizations met to discuss the lack of supervised activities during the summer months for area girls. A few years later in 1942 the Lynn Women's Club formally organized as the Girls Service League. The Girls Service League officially became the Girls Club of Lynn in February of 1945 and joined the Lynn United Fund. In May 1945 the Lynn Club joined the Girls Club of America. The purpose of the Club at that time was to build character, and provide instruction in arts, crafts and domestic sciences to girls. Visit here to view our timeline .

At Girls Inc. of Lynn, we take a holistic approach to a girl’s life. Our programs are intentionally focused on gender equity and designed to inspire girls to strong, smart and bold. Our national programs are research based and delivered in a safe, pro-girl environment by professionally trained staff who serve as positive role models. 4. How can I get my daughter involved in Girls Inc. programming?
Parents and guardians may enroll their daughter in a program by downloading the appropriate program form(s) from our web site or by contacting our office (781.592.9744). Girls Inc. staff will assist parents and guardians with understanding eligibility requirements and in selecting the right program for their daughter.
5. Why does Girls Inc. of Lynn only serve girls?
The all-girl option allows girls to plunge into activities without worrying about whether they “belong” or not, or if they are more or less skilled than boys. Gender-specific programming lets girls focus on their real interests, at their own pace and free from distractions and comparisons. View our Girls’ Bill of Rights.
6. What is the cost of Girls Inc. of Lynn programs?
Many of our programs are available at no cost to participants. The School Age Child Care program is fee-based; the cost will vary depending on family income. Scholarships or sliding fees are available to those families who demonstrate economic need.
7. How can I get involved with Girls Inc. of Lynn as a donor?
There are several ways for individuals, businesses and organizations to support us as a donor including our Annual Fund, Spring Celebration Luncheon and the Autumn Rhapsody. Visit here for ways to become involved.
8. How can I get involved as a volunteer?
Girls Inc. welcomes volunteers in all our programs and to assist with administrative tasks. Opportunities are available to individuals, corporations and high school and college students. Visit here for more details.
9. How is Girls Inc. of Lynn funded?
Girls Inc. of Lynn is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit, tax exempt organization. Our funding resources are 40% government; 25% parent and program fees; 14% foundation grants; 9% United Way; 7% special events and 5% individuals and corporations.
10. What corporations, businesses and organizations are represented on your board of directors?
Our board of directors represent a variety of businesses and organizations throughout the North Shore and Boston area including: GE; The Caleb Foundation: Salem Five;Routes2Market, Inc; Eastern Bank; New England School of Acupuncture, Comcast and IHG.
11. Does Girls Inc. collaborate with other organizations?
Girls Inc. of Lynn collaborates with many local organizations. For example , this past year we have partnered with the Lynn Public Schools; Girls Coalition of Greater Boston; North Shore Community College, Salem State College; Society of Women Engineers; MIT; Rotary Club of Marblehead Harbor, Simmons College Girls Get Connected conference and Lynn Arts
12. Are there other Girls Inc. affiliates in Massachusetts?
Yes, there are eight affiliates in Massachusetts. They are located in the following cities and towns:
